National Volunteer Week Profile: Carole Dedhar

volunteer food coordinator 2017

Happy National Volunteer Week! This week, we’re excited to profile a few of the amazing volunteers who make KidSafe’s programs possible!

Carole Dedhar has been an invaluable volunteer at our Nightingale program site, working with our Food Coordinator, Elida, to ensure 80 children receive healthy, nutritious meals each day of our Break Programs!

  1. How long have you been a KidSafe volunteer?

I have volunteered for 2 years with KidSafe

  1. What role do you take while volunteering? What sorts of activities and responsibilities do you have?

My volunteer role has been as a Food Coordinator Assistant at the Nightingale KidSafe site.

  1. Why did you decide to start volunteering with KidSafe?

I volunteered with the KidSafe group as a result of an article that I read in The Vancouver Sun newspaper a couple of years ago. Since helping kids especially through culinary means are two of my favourite activities, your group seemed like a perfect fit for me, and it has been!

  1. What do you find most rewarding about doing volunteer work?

I found the team work with my fellow hard working kitchen volunteers to be very rewarding as was the daily sight of seeing the children eating so well during the breakfast and lunch time meals. We all did our best to make this happen for them.

  1. What was a favourite moment while volunteering at KidSafe?

One of my favourite moments during my time with KidSafe was at the end of the Pancake Breakfast when we could sit back and bask in the glory of having fed approximately 100 people an amazing meal of pancakes, bacon, sausages, eggs and fruit. This was our way of saying thank to the generous souls who continue to support and believe in KidSafe.

Thank you, Carole, for sharing your experience and for making our Break Programs possible!
