For some children reading is a challenge. KidSafe understands that, that challenge is intensified when there is illiteracy at home, English isn’t a first language or there isn’t anyone at home to help with homework or share in a bedtime story. In addition to a focus on literacy during KidSafe break time programming KidSafe offers an after school tutoring mentor program with York House independent school wherein the York House students come every Tuesday to work with our kids. Kristi Rintoul, Program Coordinator asked one of the teachers if they thought the program was helpful for their students “Are you kidding? Wednesdays have become my favourite days because I know the children will show up with their homework done and questions answered."
