Passing the Puck

Activities at KidSafe are varied and involve everything from arts and crafts, drama and music, reading and science experiments to card games and connect four tournaments. But it’s the gym and outdoor group games that a lot of the children get the most excited about and with physical health and well being as one of our top priorities, KidSafe ensures that the children receive at least 2 hours of recreation a day while on site.

One day while I was at one of the sites, a group of children came into the lunchroom excitedly talking about their time in the gym. I commented on how sweaty two of the boys were and one of them overheard me.

"I understand you are wondering why we are sweaty, we were playing hockey and Lyle passed me the puck and I had a break away and I scored!" A very proud 8 year old informed me after which he and Lyle high-fived. This boy has been attending KidSafe for years but has always struggled with behaviours and making friends, it was so wonderful to see him developing his self confidence and relationships.
