Spring Break Program Highlights

During Spring Break (14-31 March 2016) we welcomed 340 children for two weeks of safety, support and fun at our five program sites in east Vancouver. When schools closed for spring break we kept our doors open to provide the following essential services:

  • 21,420 total program hours of fun developmental activities with caring staff
  • 9,180 nutritious meals and snacks cooked fresh on-site by our Food Coordinators
  • Safe daily transportation via school bus or walking school bus to approximately 90 children who would not otherwise be able to access our programs
  • Bi-weekly field trips: highlights included ice skating, HR MacMillan Space Centre, rock climbing, and making pizza at Rocky Mountain Flatbread restaurant
  • As a result of our Spring Break Program children surveyed reported the following outcomes:
  • 93% of children said they learnt a new skill whilst at KidSafe
  • 89% of children had an opportunity to try a new activity
  • 86% of children demonstrated positive peer relationship skills
  • 89% of children expressed positive feelings about their experience during KidSafe
  • 94% of children could identify three nutritious foods eaten during KidSafe

Thank you to all our donors, volunteers and staff who made our Spring Break Program possible!
