“The ability to identify, understand, interpret, create, communicate, compute and use printed and written materials associated with varying contexts. Literacy involves a continuum of learning to enable an individual to achieve his or her goals, to develop his or her knowledge and potential, and to participate fully in the wider society.”
– United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)
Literacy is a foundational skill necessary to succeed. At KidSafe we understand that children may not be receiving the same level of literacy activities at home, for a variety of reasons, as their peers. KidSafe helps level the playing field by ensuring the continuation of learning over the break periods occurs in a variety of ways, giving kids the self confidence and the knowledge to be successful in school and life. At KidSafe children develop literacy skills in the garden, through mentorship, by participating in the arts, and through creative writing and reading.
