Sustainability, Science, and Nature

"We thrive and survive on planet earth as a single human family. And one of our main responsibilities is to leave to successor generations a sustainable future."

– General Kofi A. Annan

KidSafe understands that the great outdoors can be a wonderful place of exploration and learning for children. In partnerships with the schools KidSafe maintains gardens at all of our sites full of native and food producing plants which allow the children to learn about food sustainability and develop an appreciation of the fruits and vegetables they grow from seeds.  Children learn the science of an ecosystem through the work they’ve put in tending the garden.  Environmentalism and sustainable practices are shared through all workshops and activities. Programs and activities help develop an appreciation of spaces such as wilderness, beaches, and Stanley park, Seymour mountain trails, Spanish banks etc.  For our children these are places they wouldn’t otherwise be able to go to because of financial constraints, lack of transportation, and other barriers they may face.
