KidSafe recruits for several positions to staff our programs during the summer, spring and winter breaks. These positions include food workers, kitchen support staff, child support workers, leadership development staff, and specialists in our pillar areas. 

We are currently seeking people for the following positions:

 KidSafe Food Coordinator Job Description - Summer 2012 Session          

Functional Area:

Work Location:

Kimount KidSafe site 395 East 6th Ave Vancouver

Hours of Work

7:30am - 1:30am plus 3 hours a week for meal prep / shopping and clean up.

 

Objectives:

To coordinate the food program for one site during the first month of our summer 2012 KidSafe program. The Food Coordinator is responsible for budgeting, meal planning and preparing breakfast, lunch and snack for 70 elementary aged children during the weeks of July 3rd – July 31st.  (Excluding weekends and stat holidays.)

 

Responsibilities and Duties

      Coordinate KidSafe Food Program for children and provide nutritious meals that adhere to Canada’s Food Guide

      Plan menus, cook, ensure purchase or delivery of food supplies/groceries, ensure proper handling and storage of food supplies for assigned kitchen

      When possible include informal learning about food, nutrition and food safety for children.

      Ensure meal planning is done in advance to accommodate out-trips, allergies and special program needs or themes.

      Maintain health and safety standards in kitchens in accordance with Public Health requirements; ensure kitchens and equipment are clean and in safe working order

      Ensure volunteers observe appropriate hygiene and food safety standards

      Make necessary purchases of food and equipment within assigned budget, being as cost-conscious as possible while maintaining integrity of the food program and nutritional content of meals.

      Prepare and submit expense sheets, reconciling the expenditures to budget ensuring there is no over-spending of allocated monies.

      Maintain all necessary records such as allergies and the daily log book to list number of children served during breakfast and lunch.

      Carry out set up and cleanup of eating area and kitchen daily.

 

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

      Good knowledge of food handling and safety

      Training and/or experience in operating food programs

      Good organizational and time management skills

      Knowledge of operation and care of kitchen equipment

      Food Safe Certificate and Current Criminal Record Check

 

 

Child Support Specialist Job Description - Summer 2012 Session

Functional Area:

Nightingale KidSafe site 2740 Guelph St.

Hours:

July 3rd –  August 24th, 2012 (excluding weekends and stat. holidays)

Time allotted for pre and post summer meetings and reporting.

9:00am – 4:00pm

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct Child Support

  • Provide one – one counselling.
  • Develop strategies and interventions to support students.
  • Identify, refer and follow-up support in case of child abuse of severe emotional/behavioural problems.

Groups

  • Facilitate small social skills/self-esteem groups.
  • Work with site coordinators to address issues that come up in small group counselling discussions.
  • Work with staff groups by providing strategies to best support participants.

Reporting

  • Keep a daily journal record of daily events, planned group work and children served.
  • A final report is to be completed and shared with Manager of Programming and Development.
  • Reporting on specific disclosures or participants shared with site coordinator who will then share with schools upon completion of session.

 EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • University degree or college diploma in a social science program or significant experience and training in a related field.
  • Able and qualified to have counselling conversations with children and youth.  
  • Experience assisting individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Capacity to design programs facilitate group experiences, and lead groups in programs and in processes.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Proven ability to develop rapport with children, youth, and adults in a variety of contexts.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with children with behavioural, social, emotional and mental health/psychiatric issues.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (both verbally and in writing) with children and their families, educational personnel, child protection social workers and resource workers, service providers and partners.
  • Able to self-start, make judgment calls, and create new models/programs as needed
